Some things I’ve made that make me smile

Video / Art + Design / Photography / Research

I started a video series with my mom.

This is my mother, Lisa. She’s pretty badass. She raised 3 kids on her own, worked at the same company for over 30 years and still has a sense of humor.

She’s the best at giving advice; even when you don’t want it or need it. I decided to create Dear Lisa for her to do what she does best: giving unsolicited advice to internet strangers. Viewer discretion advised.

I designed an art installation for Clean Inc.

Clean Inc. is an integrated branding agency located in Raleigh, NC. Their leadership team came to me with a vision: an art installation that honored each member of the Clean family. Acrylic panels provided the perfect medium to create a truly dynamic piece that shows Clean’s impressive history.

I studied abroad in Ethiopia and Tanzania.

As a part of my religious studies curriculum at Elon University, I had the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia and Tanzania. I camped in the Serengeti, scaled the mountains of Lalibela and took classes with students at Addis Ababa University.

After spending so many hours in lecture halls back home, I realized that real learning happens when you go somewhere new. I cried tears of joy every morning on this trip and I cannot wait to go back with my family. Check out the video and photo gallery below to see the experience through my eyes.

I wrote my undergraduate thesis on Hillary Clinton’s advertising strategy during the 2016 election.

Despite media evolution, political advertising remains the primary means by which candidates directly reach voters. The 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was no exception. Since the birth of political advertising in the 1960s, experts have investigated advertising strategies and trends in order to uncover patterns in voter behavior.

My undergraduate thesis investigated the tone, topic, and content of Clinton-sponsored advertisements during the 2016 presidential election through content analysis. My results illustrated an advocacy-heavy advertising strategy for Clinton, with a shift from policy-focused advocacy ads to character-focused attack ads as Election Day drew nearer. Advertisements featuring content about rights, leadership, and the economy were most common.
